Punjab State was reorganized in the year 1966 and was left with only 1875 Sq. Km of recorded forest area in that year which has now increased to 3058 Sq. Km.
The State of Punjab shares the national vision of sustainable management of forests to meet the needs of present and future generations. This vision has following characteristics:
The Department of Forests & Wildlife Preservation, Punjab solicits co-operation from every citizen to contribute to the sustenance of perennial vegetation on the earth so as to check environmental degradation and protect other natural resources.
This can be achieved with protection of forest areas, plantation of forest tree species on all available lands, conservation of existing trees
